Iodine Extremely Important for Health

Did you know that Iodine is extremely important for your body?

Iodine is an element that your body needs to be able to produce hormones.  Iodine also plays an important role in the development of our central nervous system. In extreme cases a low amount of Iodine in your body as a child is developing it can play a role in stunted physical and mental development.

Iodine has shown that it can be used in various applications to help and help with our wellness in various ways. It’s been applied to skin to kill germs, prevent soreness in mouth (which may have been caused by chemotherapy) and to treat diabetic ulcers. Iodine is also used for water purification purposes.

Even though our bodies need it, we don’t produce iodine on our own. We must consume it. So, if you don’t have enough iodine, it is because you have not consumed enough.  If there is a shortage of iodine in your body, it can force your thyroid to work even harder than normal, potentially causing it to enlarge.  making you iodine deficient and possibly a hormonal imbalance.

It plays a major role in our health as you can tell.

That all being said, Iodine should be an essential part of your diet.

Surprisingly enough, most foods contain very little iodine. Now some salts have iodine in them, however you must also be mindful of the amount of salt consumed.

Iodine is considered likely safe when consumed at recommended amounts. Large amounts or long-term use of iodine are considered possible unsafe. (prolonged doses higher than 1100 mcg per day without proper medical supervision.)

One of my favorite sources of iodine is in seaweed. Yes, you can get it in your various cuisines. I decided that I preferred to be able to sprinkle it on various dishes while in the kitchen or at the table. I have been doing this for years and frankly don’t know how I ever did without it.
