Mike’s Wine & Spirits – Open House/Midwest Mermaid Muse Tastings

Kathleen Foland was at Mike’s in Brookside on September 6th sharing samples of her Mermaid Mary – her version of a Bloody Mary mix. She took her favorite Bloody Mary mix as a base and added fresh ingredients, flavor, nutrition and spice (using Land & SEAsoning). She also provided samples of her seasoned popcorn. One young man loved her popcorn so much, he asked his Daddy to swing him back for some more! Thanks to everyone who stopped by!

Sears Home & Life – Store Opening/Health Eating Demo Series

The new Sears Home & Life store in Overland Park on 119th Street invited Kathleen to come share her insight (on June 26) about integrating more plant-based foods in your diet. They have such a nice store (this new concept is one of three in the country) focusing primarily on large appliances, small appliances and mattresses. Here’s Kathleen and Debbie taking a break while getting set up in the new demo kitchen area.

The Savory Spice Shop – Duxelles Demonstration

The sun finally came out on Saturday, May 25 for our cooking demonstration at the Savory Spice Shop in Brookside/Kansas City. The Midwest Mermaid Muse, Kathleen, with help from one of our “mermaids” Debbie, demonstrated how to sautée a mushroom blend to create the French base “Duxelles” – a finely chopped mixture of mushrooms or mushroom stems, onions or shallots, herbs and seasonings reduced to a paste or a base. She shared how to boost the flavor of the mushroom base, while increasing its nutritional benefits with the addition of dried seaweed as well as her spice mix Land & SEAsoning.

Creating Duxelles is also a great way of eliminating food waste and it can be used to prepare make-ahead meals. Local culinary and healing mushrooms from Grand River Mushrooms were utilized. If you missed this event, check our event page in the future, our emails, or Facebook – as we’ll be back at the Savory Spice Shop a couple more times this summer!

Brew & Shop – Martin City Event Space

We had fun showcasing our products just a few blocks away at the Martin City Event Space for the first Brew & Shop held on May 9, 2019. Sort of an organized Ladies’ Night Out, women from around south Kansas City came by to have a free brew or two compliments of Martin City Brewery and were able to shop for items and gifts from artisans and producers from throughout the city. We made some tasty treats with Land & SEAsoning and loved meeting new people and sharing our story and products with them.

2019 Best of Missouri Life Market Fair

The Best of Missouri Life Market Fair was held on April 26-27, 2019 at beautiful Powell Gardens, and we were one of the 100+ artisans and producers showcasing Missouri-made products. We loved meeting so many people from the state and introducing them to the benefits of seaweed and healing mushrooms! We hope they enjoyed the products they purchased along their journey to “look good, feel good!”

We Love Our Furry Friends!

Midwest Mermaid Muse was delighted to be able to be a sponsor of the “Always and Furever’s Golden Gala” event this past March, 2019, which raised money for senior dogs, as well as created awareness for adopting a senior pup. We donated over $3,000 in products and services, and the chicken entrée was fixed with our Land & SEAsoning spice mix and it was put on the tables as well. The event was held at the KC Wine Co. Vineyard & Winery. (Photographs courtesy of ARC Photography.)

By the way, to help your pets live a long and healthy life, check out Dr. Mercola Health Pet Products. We use several of them for our pets and it really can make a difference, especially if your pet needs GI support.
